Learning Acceptance from the Media

I believe society learns a lot from the media.  When they go to the movies or read books.   Therefore, I think they need to have more people with disabilities in the movies, on TV and in books. This would help society be much more accepting. Now, I am not talking about movies like Radio, where he is the focus of the movie. I am saying have people with disabilities should just be another character like all the others – like the TV shows Glee and Private Practice have done. This way, society can see that people with disabilities can lead average lives.

To help with my theory, I have written a book that I am now working on rewriting. My novel is called Dancing Daisies, and it’s going to be a young adult novel. The story is about a teen-aged girl who goes to camp and the experiences she has there. Originally, I had my main character just in a wheelchair. After I completed the novel, I decided society needs a cool character who uses a communication device. I hope to get it published someday and change some people’s attitudes.
