Justin Birch

Justin Birch is a native of Pennsylvania. He became interested in nursing during high school while volunteering at a nursing home. After high school he enrolled in college and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. He continued his education and was just two classes away from graduating as a Registered Nurse when in 2003, at the age of 28, he suffered a brain aneurysm that left him partially paralyzed and unable to speak. Justin considers himself lucky that his cognitive function was not affected by the event.

Justin now lives in Cape Coral, Florida. As an augmented communicator with disabilities that presented as an adult, Justin has a keen insight into how disabilities can affect families. He and his wife divorced under the stress of the new life they were living.

Prior to the aneurysm, Justin enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Although he can no longer drive a “hog,” he enjoys collecting Harley Davidson memorabilia, riding as a passenger on friends’ bikes and going to bike shows whenever possible.

Justin is also an avid and accomplished poker player. He plays in many tournaments and a weekly poker league.
