Lateef McLeod
Lateef McLeod has a budding career as a writer. He earned a BA in English from the University of California Berkeley then completed an MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College in his city of Oakland.
Lateef joined the AAC RERC Writers Brigade in 2006 where he wrote technical articles about the AAC community. He has joined the ranks of all the great poets listed at poetry.com, and his poetry, essays, and literary criticisms have been anthologized. Lateef expanded into the genre of technical writing, placing articles in Advance Magazine, appearing as key-note speaker at the United States Society of Augmentative and Alternative Communication’s 2007 Bubbly Ball, and was the plenary speaker at the AAC by the Bay Conference in 2007.
He continues working in the field of technology contributing articles to the Assistive Technology Network and his expertise in communication and technology led to his current position as a consultant for DynaVox Mayer-Johnson. Lateef also works as an English and Math tutor for high school students at an after school program called College Track in downtown Oakland. He also serves a commissioner on the Oakland’s Mayor’s Commission on People with Disabilities and his book of original poetry, A Declaration of a Body of Love, is due out the beginning of 2010.
