Sara Pyszka
Sara is a senior at Wright State University majoring in Rehabilitation Services. Although she has cerebral palsy and is unable to walk, talk or user her hands, she does not think of herself as having a disability. Rather she sees herself as a person who just needs the right technology to overcome the obstacles that life presents.
Sara holds the distinction of being the first augmented communicator to sing the National Anthem at a Major League Baseball game having done so at a Cleveland Indians game. The next summer she followed up that appearance by singing the National Anthem for a hometown crowd at a Pittsburgh Pirates game. Sara was on the national stage when she said the Pledge of Allegiance at the Republican National Convention in 2004.
Singing may be her first love, but Sara is also an accomplished composer and she has written several original songs with Lucas Richman, the conductor of the Knoxville Symphony. The two are currently at work on a musical to raise disability awareness.
